Rebel Wilson worked in a chip shop for her new movie role

Los Angeles - Rebel Wilson worked in a chip shop to prepare for her new role in The Brothers Grimsby.

The Pitch Perfect 2 star - who plays Lindsey in the Sacha Baron Cohen film - got a taste of life in Grimsby, England by drinking in traditional pubs, working as a fish fryer and watching Benefits Street, which follows working-class people living off welfare.

She revealed: "For research, I watched the TV show Benefits Street, went to some English pubs, did karaoke and even worked in a fish-and-chip shop."

The 35-year-old comedienne was able to "relate" to the working-class characters in the movie as she came from a disadvantaged upbringing herself.

She told Cosmopolitan: "Coming from an underprivileged background myself, I can really relate to the working-class thing in the film."

Elsewhere, Rebel admitted she is "unique" and not your stereotypical Hollywood actress.

She added: "Being unique and different was a really good thing.

"When I walked into my agent's office for the first time in 2009, they looked at me and said, 'Wow, we have nobody on our books like you.'

"And they signed me on my second day here."
