What it's about:

When Casey, a dancer who is discovered on YouTube, gets thrust into the modern world of internet celebrity and culture, she must find a way to balance her true identity with her online persona, or risk losing everything she cares about.

What we thought:

What I loved about this dance movie is that it’s not another movie from the Step Up franchise because I think we can all agree those have become a little bit redundant.

This proved to be a fresh, modern take of a dance group using the internet as a platform to catch their big break. And like every other up-and-coming star on YouTube, they shortly find out that just uploading a video is not going to get them far enough.

The general outline of the movie tells a contemporary tale of the lengths YouTube stars have to go to in order to become ‘viral’ and stay relevant in an ever-changing social media world where something becomes old in less than 24-hours.

While also taking similar plots to many other dance movies - queue the dance battles, someone leaving the group or someone becoming more famous than the others. However, even this had a different and very important - not so clichéd feel to it.

The movie, unlike the Step Up franchise, didn’t have any well-known actors/dancers in it, although if you are a So You Think You Can Dance fan, then you’ll spot Robert (season 4 and also an All Star), has a big role in this movie. And he of course shined with his contemporary/modern dance style, which he is known for.

And speaking of So You Think You Can Dance, this movie is definitely for fans of the show.

With different aspects being combined in this movie such as film, music, dance and the internet, this movie manages to bridge the gap and focus on dancing without flashy celebrity names and well-known chart topping songs.

This dance movie is a fresh and modern story brought to life in a coming-of-age dance drama for the YouTube generation.
