In the spirit of World Aids Day, News24 Live went to listen to HIV+ mothers talk about their own experiences and, in turn, the work they're doing to help empower other HIV+ mothers to provide the right care for their children - with the 'mothers2mothers' campaign. Watch.
Each day more than 600 children worldwide are newly infected with HIV. Almost 90% of these children live in sub-Saharan Africa, and nearly all of them acquire HIV from their mothers during pregnancy, childbirth, or breastfeeding. Around half will die before the age of two if their HIV infection goes untreated. Non-profit social enterprise Relate Bracelets launched a new bracelet ahead of World Aids Day to be sold with the goal of raising funds to end paediatric Aids in sub-Saharan Africa.
The handmade beaded bracelets will raise funds for African-based, global not-for-profit organisation mothers2mothers - to create an HIV-free generation and to keep HIV-positive mothers healthy.
