Parliament’s management and trade union Nehawu urgently need to come to an agreement to avoid “a catastrophe” at Parliament.
This was said by Cosatu president S’dumo Dlamini today on the sidelines of the Cosatu congress in Midrand about the ongoing strike of parliamentary workers.
“Parliament and Nehawu need to sit down and come to an agreement and end all the anarchy that is going on. It is unacceptable.”
Dlamini said that the trade union federation fully supported Nehawu’s demands.
He said it was high time that Parliament, under the leadership of the parliamentary secretary Gengezi Mgidlana, sat down with Nehawu and “honestly and genuinely” engaged with the union.
On the issue of the workers’ performance bonuses he said that Parliament could not say that it didn’t have money.
“You can’t now say there is no money when you were supposed to have made money available many many months ago and there was an agreement – that is a violation of an agreement.”
Dlamini said Parliament and Nehawu needed to come to an agreement urgently.
“I hope it doens’t carry on forever. They must find each other so that we don’t see a catastrophe.”
