Pretoria - A Cullinan woman who abandoned her 2-month-old baby next to a railway line in order to attend a party was granted bail on Tuesday.
The 23-year-old who faces a charge of child neglect was granted R500 bail in the Cullinan Magistrate’s Court, police spokesperson Constable Connie Moganedi said.
The woman was also barred her from seeing the child. She was expected back in court on December 22.
The woman was arrested on Monday morning. She had gone to the police station and reported that her child was stolen.
According to Moganedi, the woman eventually confessed that she left the infant next to the railway line – apparently because she wanted to attend a party.
The child was taken to the police station on Saturday afternoon by two men. The men told police that they found the infant, wrapped in a baby blanket, lying on his stomach, next to the railway line crying.
On Monday, News24 reported that the baby had found a new home at a children's home in Pretoria.
