Pretoria - The Higher Education Transformation Network has approached the Equality Court and lodged a legal case against the South African Board for Personnel Practices (SABPP) for failing to implement its own disciplinary policies and taking action against racist malpractices.
The HETN said the SABPP had failed to implement its own disciplinary policies and has also not taken action against alleged racist malpractices committed by its own individual and corporate membership. The failure prompted them to take the matter further.
“On the 5th April 2013, the Higher Education Transformation Network (HETN), acting in support of six dismissed former employees of the North West University (NWU) Potchefstroom, filed complaints of alleged unprofessional conduct and racist HRM practices with the SABPP against three human resource management (HRM) employees of the North West University (NWU) Potchefstroom campus,” Executive Director, Reginald Legoabe said in a statement.
“It has been over two years since the lodging of the unprofessional conduct complaint by the Network (supplemented by raw evidence from 6 former NWU Potchefstroom employees as well as testimony from a published book) and the SABPP is yet to take strong disciplinary action relating to the complaint.”
Legoabe said they felt the SABPP had failed to prove its commitment and leadership to transforming the Human Resource Management (HRM) profession by rooting out racist workplace practices allegedly orchestrated by its members and act without fear or favour to stamp out racist HRM practitioners from its ranks.
“Until the case is finalised, the Network calls on all progressive human resource management practitioners to withdraw their membership and participation in the activities of the SABPP which we accuse of alleged hypocrisy and double standards,” said Legoabe.
