Durban – A Netcare 911 paramedic’s wife rescued a 5 year-old boy who was drowning at the Estuary Beach in Port Elizabeth on Saturday, paramedics said.
Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said a manager from Netcare 911 and his wife were doing beach photos at a wedding when the wife noticed a drowning 5 year-old boy.
“The child was pulled from the water and the paramedic’s wife performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the unresponsive child while the ambulance crew was on the way to the scene.”
Botha said paramedics and National Sea Rescue Institute [NSRI] crews arrived at the scene and found the child breathing.
“Medics stabilised the child at the scene before rushing him to a hospital in Margate. Soon after the arrival at the hospital the child regained consciousness."
