Police seize drugs outside festival

Johannesburg - A 45-year-old man was arrested outside a festival venue in Bronkhorstspruit after drugs were allegedly found in his car, police said on Sunday.

Police spokesperson Constable Connie Moganedi said the K9 Unit followed up on information that there were drugs in the Vaalbank area where a festival was taking place on Saturday.

She said they found drugs on a man who told them there were also drugs in a car parked outside the venue.

The police found dagga, acid, magic mushrooms and ecstacy with a street value of around R50 000.

These were booked in to the police station, with the arrested man expected to appear in the Bronkhorstspruit Magistrate's Court soon.

Moganedi said that in the course of this investigation, there was nothing to show that the festival organisers had obtained permission for the event, and this alleged violation will also be investigated.

She did not know yet which festival it was.
