Johannesburg - There was still no sign of a toddler who was taken at gunpoint from his bed at his Meyerton home during the week, police said on Sunday.
Constable Maria Mazibuko said police investigations continued but there had been no arrests in connection to the 1-year-old boy's kidnapping.
"There's been nothing so far," Mazibuko answered when asked whether the family had perhaps received a ransom demand to ensure Relebohile Tsotesti safe return.
The little boy was snatched on Thursday night.
His 36-year-old mother, who runs a funeral parlour, was on her way out of her house to collect a corpse late when she was accosted by three men.
Just minutes before, she had received a call from people who had pleaded for her to come and collect the body.
"She had just opened the burglar bar when the three men came and pointed a gun at her. They pushed her into the house and demanded the child," Mazibuko said.
The armed men forced her into the bedroom where they picked up a sleeping child.
The boy, commonly called by his nickname Ditsebe, was dressed in a batman T-shirt and light blue shorts at the time.
"The other three kids and the mom were all then locked into the bathroom and the men left with the child. The motive for this kidnapping is not yet known," Mazibuko said.
The mother had separated from the children's father.
Mazibuko said the father was not a suspect in the case.
