Amla out of Kimberley ODI

Cape Town - Proteas star batsman Hashim Amla has been ruled out of the second ODI against New Zealand at the De Beers Diamond Oval in Kimberley on Tuesday.

Amla sustained a strain to his right quad muscle during practice on Monday afternoon, which flared up overnight.

Proteas team manager Dr Mohammed Moosajee said: “Hashim sustained the strain in his right quad during warm-ups yesterday afternoon but continued training without much hindrance. He woke up this morning with a severely stiff quad muscle and has been withdrawn from the playing XI. We will only be able to make a call on his availability for the final game after more assessment in the next few days.”

New Zealand won the first ODI by one wicket in Paarl last Sunday. The third and final ODI is scheduled for Friday, January 25 (14:30) in Potchefstroom.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
