Neil McKenzie calls it a day

Cape Town - Former Proteas batsman Neil McKenzie has announced his retirement from cricket.

McKenzie, 39, scored an unbeaten double-century in his final first class match as the Highveld Lions celebrated their Sunfoil Series crowning with an innings and 51-run victory over the Warriors at the Wanderers on Sunday.

It was a fitting end to McKenzie's 20-year long first-class career in which he scored 19 041 runs, with 53 tons at an average of 45.77.

McKenzie played 58 Tests for the Proteas, scoring 3 253 runs at an average of 37.39.

He also featured in 64 ODIs, scoring 1 688 runs at 37.51, as well as two T20 internationals.
