Cape Town - Former Bafana Bafana striker, Philemon Masinga, has praised Thamsanqa Gabuza, who netted the national team’s first goal in a 3-0 win over Mauritius yesterday.
The Orlando Pirates striker was also among the goals during the midweek 2-1 win over Angola in a friendly match, and Masinga told Sport24 that Gabuza has the potential to be the country’s main striker.
“I’m very happy for the young man, he has shown the potential to give the national team what I and other top strikers did for Bafana Bafana,” Masinga said.
“He has done well also for his club in the recent continental competition and I think he has a lot to offer going forward.”
The 1996 Africa Cup of Nations winner however, said the country should be patient with Gabuza as pressure will work against his improvement.
“I believe the player can prove to be a sensational player if given a chance with game time at club level,” said the retired striker.
“He has impressed me, and I hope he will keep his feet on the ground and continue to work hard,” he said.
