Erasmus urged to step up

Cape Town - Orlando Pirates' 1995 CAF Champions League hero Jerry Sikhosana has urged Kermit Erasmus to step up to the plate and steer the team to another continental milestone.

Pirates take on Etoile du Sahel in the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup final in Tunisia on Sunday with the tie balanced slightly in favour of the Tunisian side who scored an away goal in the 1-1 draw in the first-leg.

Sikhosana, who scored the winning goal for Pirates against Asec Mimosa two decades ago, said Erasmus needs to play an influential role in the deciding match.

"This Pirates team has everything, but if you are looking for one player to go out there and make things happen for the team it is the jersey number 95 [Erasmus]. I'm putting my money on him to drive the team and make us proud," Sikhosana told KickOff.

"I believe he should have done better in the first leg, but we know that when Erasmus plays well the team plays well.

"I was booed in 1995 for not scoring when I had a good chance in the first leg of the final at FNB Stadium and I wanted to prove people wrong.

"So Kermit finds himself in a similar situation and he is the player I will single out in saying he needs to up his game for the second-leg."
