Igesund: I can't complain

Cape Town - SuperSport United coach Gordon Igesund supports the Premiership's decision to take a three-week break for the Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations.

The constant breaks in local fixtures have been a cause of consternation among top-flight coaches with only one round of games having been played since mid-November.

The decision to go on another hiatus, so soon after the recent FIFA international break, was to give South Africa's Under-23 side the best possible chance of qualifying for the Olympics via the tournament in Senegal, which got underway on Saturday.

"I think we are getting used to the breaks now. I can't complain much because it will affect every team," Igesund told Goal website.

"We just have to plan very well so that when we return from the break we can continue from where we left off when we played against Ajax Cape Town.

"It's true we would have loved to continue playing but you know it's very important to support our national teams and the break will help the Under-23s."

South Africa opened the competition with a heavy 3-1 loss to hosts Senegal and now face an uphill battle to qualify from Group A.
