Cape Town - Tourists can be the worst, and if hospitality industry workers were allowed to disclose all the nonsense they've had to deal with, we would be able to write the comedy of the century!
Difficult tourists are especially prominent in South Africa, where we are said to be 'living on the edge'. According to tourists, we sleep soundly even though 'crocodiles' have crept into our rooms and roaring lions are a common site on the front stoep, oops sorry we mean porch. And they can't deal.
Here are the 10 best (worst?) complaints received by concerned and upset tourists in SA:
"There were crocodiles in my room!" - a guest at Hluhluwe's Mpila reserve was very concerned about the gecko in her room.
"A couple was screwing all night. It wasn't fair." - a complaint to a backpackers hostel in Umhlanga.
"We want our money back because there were ants in our room." - a Dutch family complained to their booking agent about the ants in their TREEHOUSE accommodation near Knysna.
"I think it should be explained in the brochure that the local convenience store does not sell proper biscuits like custard creams or ginger nuts."
"The ocean is too loud." - American family complained about the noisy ocean in the beachfront house they specifically requested.
"The roads were uneven and bumpy, so we could not read the local guide book during the bus ride to the resort. Because of this, we were unaware of many things that would have made our holiday more fun."
"I am a Chinese citizen and refuse to let a Japanese person sleep in our dorm. They have stolen our land." - a patriotic Chinese tourist refused to allow the Japanese guest to stay in the communal room at an Umhlanga backpacker hostel.
"Can I please stay at another lodge? Their lions roar too loudly and I cannot sleep here." - American woman complained to her booking agent during a trip to Namibia.
"Although the brochure said that there was a fully equipped kitchen, there was no egg-slicer in the drawers."
"Can you please do something about the temperature of the ocean? It's too cold!" - a disillusioned tourist in Cape Town.
