Cape Town - As we approach the end of 2015, travellers are wondering where the best city to celebrate the year would be.
For many, New Year’s Eve is far more anticipated than Christmas.
New Year’s Eve is the time to take your family to the beach or camp out on the streets of Cape Town and watch the minstrels, it is when we love to see fireworks too - but remember to always do it in designated areas.
The trendiest NYE city in the world also holds the world record for the longest firework display.
According to Kayak, these cities saw the greatest flight searches for the New Year’s period. These are the places people most want to visit in order to ring in 2016.
Kayak compared this year’s NYE searches to last year’s searches and saw dramatic increases for this year.
Kayak named the top 10 trendy cities to celebrate New Year’s Eve.
1. Dubai – Flight searches increased by 70%. Everything is opulent and over the top in this city. Dubai previously broke the world record for the longest display of fireworks in one running.
2. Cartagena, Colombia – Flight searches increased by 68%. Visitors can expect a wild party across the city and a festival-like atmosphere.
3. Barcelona, Spain – Flight searches increased by 51%. You can travel to this capital city for a free celebration at the Montjuic’s Magic Fountain.
4. Reykjavik, Iceland – Flight searches increased by 41%. The warm temperatures (over 20 degrees Celsius) are rare in Scandinavia in this time of the year. Warm up with the locals around a bonfire and celebrate under the north stars.
5. Tokyo, Japan – Flight searches increased by 40%. When the clock strikes midnight, a city bell will ring 108 times to ring in the New Year.
6. Atlanta, Georgia – Flight searches increased by 38%. What makes this American trip special is watching a 362kg peach drop tradition.
7. Santiago, Chile – Flight searches increased by 36%. On New Year’s Day, visit one of the local fish markets for their secret hangover cure.
8.Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – Flight searches increased by 35%. Join the local parties and dress in white and red to make your New Year’s wishes for love and good luck come true.
9. Chicago, US – Flight searches increased by 34%. Locals dress warmly and gather at the lakeside to watch the fires works or they enjoy a cosy boat trip.
10. Vancouver, Canada – Flight searches increased by 32%. Join over two thousand people swim the English Bay this NYE.
