Cape Town – No decision has been made regarding the professional fate of the tour guide who led a group of hikers on a very dangerous, unstable route in Table Mountain National Park, SANParks said.
News24 reported a party of 14 hikers were on the Blinkwater Ravine on Sunday, 30 August when a rock fall took place, injuring five people, with one the most seriously injured individuals pinned beneath a boulder for several hours. A military helicopter was deployed to assist in an airlift rescue operation.

The guide now faces a lifetime ban from SANParks for taking the group down the notorious Blinkwater ravine route which is clearly marked as 'CLOSED'.
According to Merle Collins, Regional Communications Manager for SANParks, "The route has been officially closed since 1982 because of the danger associated with it".
Collins said there is signage at the both ends of the route clearly stating that it is closed. She also said there are at least three alternative routes, namely Slangolie, Woody Ravine and Corrider, which hikers are able to use around the Blinkwater ravine route.
SANParks officials are still investigating the incident.
