Cape Town - Seeing the crowning apex predator of the wild in full swing is a coveted and often rare occurrence. Until recently, thanks to Kevin Richardson, also known as the lion whisperer.
Richardson posted a video to YouTube offering a piggyback view of a lioness making a kill in the wild.

Those who have watched the video on YouTube have shared remarks ranging from sheer amazement, all the way through to those lamenting the canned hunting industry that is alive and well in South Africa.
“Sadly, there still exists a thriving trophy hunting industry in Africa. Hundreds of captive bred lions are shot every year in canned hunts where the lion is released into a small enclosure and then a wealthy tourist comes and kills it with a weapon of his choice.
“No chance of escaping for the lion. The wild lion population is also decreasing because of unregulated trophy hunting,” said one reader.
A web-based survey done in 2013 showed on average 9 000 foreign hunters came to South Africa annually, each spending about $17 000 (R184 790 at R10.87/dollar) per trip.
