Cape Town – It was a bloomin’ fun weekend in the Cape Winelands as Franschhoek’s wine farms and private owners threw open their gates of their gardens to welcome visitors to the 2014 Open Gardens festival.
Glasses were filled with some of the best wines - and teas - of South Africa in prestigious gardens like those of Aliki Starke, Carl and Sonia Atkinson and La Motte’s Jaco Visser.
The Open Garden Festival started out as a small charity event that saw a few private gardens open for one afternoon only. Over the years, however, the charity has grown and bloomed into a full-flair European feel festival.
There were 10 exhibitors this year, all with breathtaking, well-established gardens, namely
- Montpellier
- La Motte
- Aliki Starke’s Garden
- Artemis House
- Garden House
- John and Barbara Gardner’s Garden
- Kleinhof
- Carl & Sonia Atkinson’s Garden
- Bergsig
- La Bri
