Cape Town - With cold fronts moving in over South Africa at a fast and furious pace, it's no surprise that SNOW has been a big topic of conversation both on social media and IRL over the past few days.
And since we've had snow on our mind, we decided to find out what's been going on at our very own, homegrown ski resort, Tiffindell. Located in the Eastern Cape town of Rhodes, the ski resort is but a few hours' drive from all of South Africa's main cities.
According to owner Lew Campbell, skiers from all over South Africa have been at the resort enjoying pristine conditions, well groomed slopes and the occasional glass of Gluwhein since the winter season started in June this year.

Currently hosting the SA National Ski Championships, the resort has also been welcoming guests from all over the globe to enjoy the spectacle.
So, if you've been dying to go on a ski holiday, but just haven't quite managed to get so far, why not try Tiffindell? Here are four great reasons to visit before the end of August!
1. REAL snow!
"The resort had 15cm of snow on Saturday 25th July and is fully operational with snow depths on most slopes of 50cm," Campbell said in an email to Traveller24. He added that since the winter hasn't been THAT cold up until now, they are expecting another good batch or two of snow throughout August. However, even when Mother Nature doesn't provide, they will keep the slopes powdery with their trusty snow machines!
2. It's the cheapest ski holiday you will ever have
As Campbell quite appropriately puts it, "A full week's package in peak time at Tiffindell is cheaper than your ski lift pass at a European resort." During peak times an all-inclusive stay at the resort will cost R10 508 per person for 7 days in a family chalet and in off-peak times R8 385 per person. You can, of course, also opt for 3-day or 4-day packages, which will be cheaper. Check out the Tiffindell site for more details.
And the best news of all? Apart from the upcoming long weekend (7 - 10 August), since 26 July Tiffindell has switched over to off peak rates!
3. It's very accessible
Firstly, you don't need a passport, or a visa, or probably even a plane ticket if you live close enough. Plus! Despite all the recent snow, the road is open and in good condition for arriving guests. The days are sunny with perfect conditions for skiing and snowboarding.
4. It's pretty
I mean, just take a look at these pics!
