Cape Town - The |Ai-|Ais/Richtersveld Transfrontier Park in South Africa and Namibia took the honours as 'Park of the Year' 2015 at an awards ceremony for the Arid National Parks in South Africa.
The event was held on Monday, 27 July at Augrabies Falls Lodge in the Augrabies Falls National Park in the Northern Cape.
The |Ai-|Ais/Richtersveld Transfrontier Park earned the award mostly due to the fact that they host three very successful outdoor adventures every year, SANParks said in a press statement.
These outdoor adventures, which cause for many visitors to flock to the park even in off-season periods, are the popular Desert Knights Mountain Bike tour, which takes place twice annually and the Wild Run competition which happens in June every year.
The next Desert Knights Mountain Bike tour is set to take place from 24 - 30 September 2015.

In other awards, Namaqua National Park's Skilpad Rest Camp received the 'Small Camp of the Year' award, while Augrabies Falls won the 'Big Camp of the Year' award.
One of the highlights of the awards ceremony was the handing over of the three special Regional Manager’s awards. This year Marjorie Matroos (Augrabies), Nick de Goede (Richtersveld) and Liancke Elan-Puttick (Mokala) were honored in this category.
Nominations for the Regional Award winners are sent through to the national SANParks Kudu Awards adjudication process.
The awards ceremony is held annually to celebrate the outstanding achievements of staff in the five Arid Parks, the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, Augrabies Falls National Park, Mokala National Park, Namaqua National Park and |Ai-|Ais/Richtersveld Transfrontier Park.
