Eel-powered decorations in Japan

An aquarium in Kamakura, Japan, tastefully lit their Christmas tree with electricity powered from the electric eels! The eels' tank contained two aluminum panels, and each time the animals moved, they generated enough electricity to power one string of flashing white lights on a 2 meter tree in 2010.

Animal Advent calendars in London

The Zoological Society of London have advent calendars during the month of December for their tenants that contain the animals' favourite fare. Much to the delight of the animals, and the visitors, the feast buckets contains, for example, fish for the penguins and crunchy crickets for the meerkats.

Santa shark diving in Utah

In mid-December, the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium in Draper, Utah, sent Santa and his helper on a dive into its shark tank.
