Cape Town - When Poh, a 15-year-old pit bull-lab mix, was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer his owner decided to take him on a whirlwind 7-week bucket list trip across the US, stopping off at a variety of famous sites and destinations.
New York-based Neil Rodriguez aka DJ Neil Armstrong had a gig in Arizona scheduled when he got the unfortunate news about Poh's condition and told the NY Daily News that he didn't want to risk leaving his furry best friend behind and maybe never seeing him again.
Rodriguez had adopted Poh from a shelter at just eight weeks old and had had him as a constant companion ever since.
So, he packed Poh's things (which included an IV drip), roped his fiance in and headed off on an epic road trip, cutting west across Georgia and then all along the US-Mexico border, right up until Arizona.
He estimates that they covered close to 20 000km, stopping in 35 cities across 19 states on the way, keeping friends, family and followers updated about the journey via heart-warming posts on Instagram under the name pohthedogsbigadventure.
One of Rodriguez's big ideals for Poh was that he would have a swim in the Pacific Ocean, which contrary to all expectations, he got to do!
It's been five weeks since Poh and his family returned home to New York, and he's still going strong, now splashing about on the beaches of the New Jersey shore.
Rodriguez has also hinted at another, shorter trip that may be coming up in the near future, which means... Poh's adventures aren't finished yet!
