5 Darling things to do in Darling and surrounds if you’re roadtripping to RTD

If you’re heading to Rocking the Daisies this weekend, chances are good you’ll spend a good few hours in your car.

Not that the road to RTD is that long, it’s just the queues to the gates are always sooo congested.

Skip the queues this year and make a road trip of your RTD weekend away. Stop over in Darling and surrounds and head into festival territory only once the mass hysteria has subsided.

Here are five darling things to do in Darling and surrounds this weekend:

Darling Museum

This is the perfect spot to start off your Darling experience with. The museum was founded by a group of local farmers’ wives in 1978 to preserve the butter making history of Darling.

The quirky museum gives an inclusive and entertaining look into Afrikaner culture, while also honouring the heritage of the San and Khoi people of the area.

Open weekdays.

Cost: R10 per adult

Tienie Versfeld Flower Reserve

Tienie Versveld Reserve lies just outside Darling en route to Yzerfontein, part of a farm that was donated to the National Botanical Society of South Africa by none other than ' Oom Tienie', Marthinus Versveld.

If you’re going to Rocking the Daisies, you might as well see some Weskus Daisies while you’re there and this is the perfect spot.

Evita se Perron

Tannie Evita Bezuidenhout, “the most famous white woman in South Africa” as coined by comedian Pieter-Dirk Uys, is a must visit.

The small theatre and restaurant sits in the old Darling Station and there are great shows to see while eating the traditional 'boerekos' served in the restaurant.

On Saturday 3 October, during lunch time, acoustic balladeer, guitarist and vocalist, Glyn Lewis will be performing at Evita se Perron.

Darling Brew

You’ve drunk this favourite craft brew in Cape Town, now go taste it at its origin. Darling Brew’s taproom, SLOW QUARTER is located in the main road of Darling. Enjoy a beer tasting with some pub grub for lunch.

Visit Groote Post

Groote Post produce the only Cap Classique and noble late harvest wines in the Darling area.

The Groote Post farms sits en route to Cloof Estate, where RTD takes place, so it's the perfect last stop before you head to the fest.

The wines are certainly worth a stop-over, but if you have time you should book for lunch at their exclusive restaurant too.
