Cape Town - While her summers are undeniably sexy, we have to admit that winter in the Mother City isn't half bad, what with the wealth of cozy spots to hide away from the cold.
We asked Capetonians what their favourite rainy day hideaways were and these seven came out tops:
Hello Sailor, Observatory
This quaint brunch, burger and beer joint in Lower Main Road is just the epitome of understated cool. A handful of tables occupy the light and airy, polished-wooden-floor interior, two spilling out onto the sidewalk outside and American traditional tattoo-inspired artworks decorate the walls. Now, while the ultra cool, hipsterness may be intimidating to some, we suggest you drop any preconceived ideas you may have and just allow the feel-good vibe to wash over you. It's a great spot to catch up with a friend or two, or even for a date!

The Tibetan Teahouse, Simonstown
Just before you drive right out of Simonstown and on to Cape Point, you find the tranquil and attractive Sophea Gallery and Tibetan Teahouse elevated ever-so-slightly above the road. The deepset verandah with its large windows overlooking False Bay, overflowing bookshelves and almost too many tables forms the hub of the teahouse, where you will no doubt encounter some intriguing individuals.
They serve a selection of delicious vegetarian and vegan dishes, including an incredible chocolate cake and apple pie - best enjoyed with a steaming cup of homemade Chai tea. Also be sure to pop into the gift shop with its selection of gorgeous jewelry, quality incense and selection of vegetarian cook books.

Four & Twenty, Wynberg
They serve breakfast all day, list 'Milk and Cookies' as a legit option (even for adults) on their menu and have an extensive wine list. What's not to love?! Located in Wynberg's Chelsea Village, Four & Twenty Cafe and Pantry is the manifestation of a dream born at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, over a box of Parisian macaroons, according to the website. Run by local gals Marijke Duminy and Tracy-Leigh Genricks, it's cute, cosy and absolutely delightful! Perfect for tea and cake with your bestie or mom.

Pajamas & Jam Eatery, Strand
Located in Strand, Pajamas & Jam Eatery is a great spot to head for a weekend treat. They serve breakfast and lunch, with two or three dish options for each. The menu changes on a daily basis, keeping things vibrant and exciting, and features anything from burgers to pot pies.
If you work close by, it's a great spot to treat yourself to a pay day lunch, since meal prices average about R70, so not your everyday kind of thing.

Woodlands Eatery, Vredehoek
We have two words for you: lamb pizza. Any of their pizzas, for that matter! But apart from the delicious food, Woodlands has charm down pat - from their eclectic interior decoration (they have a whole section lit up by colourful lampshades) to the quaint stemless glasses they serve their wine in. Of course, Capetonians are really excellent at sniffing out these sorts of spots, so if you are keen to check it out for yourself, we suggest you make a booking a day or so in advance.

El Camino Café, Bo-Kaap
Inspired by the journey along the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage in Spain where owners Marijus and Jessica met, the El Camino Cafe on Buitengracht Street offers a warm welcome and a culinary trip around the world. Carrying the tagline, 'global eatery,' the cafe offers dishes from all corners of the globe - from Japan and Vietnam to Cuba and the Caribbean, and everything in between. The interior is both minimal-chic and homely comforting.
They are open from Monday to Saturday between 08:00 and 16:00 and also offer their space for private functions. Check out their Facebook page for more details.
