Make My Weekend - SA's best outings & activities to check out right now!


Cape Town - Sports fans are still packing a RWC punch this weekend as the Springboks take on Scotland at St James Park in Newcastle.

While all RTD fans will be heading out to the picturesque town of Darling for one of the most epic festivals on the local calendar. Check out Traveller24's suggestions on how to beat the RTD queue here.

Adding a dash of wildlife spectacular-spectacular into the mix is the Hermanus Whale festival, kicking off this weekend - making Darrel Bristow-Bovey's Tale of Killjoy tourists and the lonesome whale 52 a must-read.

CAPE TOWN 

Easy Mornings:
Check out the amazing Erf 81 Market in Tamboerskloof on Sunday. The affordable market is hosted by non-profit organisation Tyisa Nabanye. 

Day Tripping: Fancy a different tour of the Winelands? Check out the liquid gold Stellenbosch Olive Route.


Expo yourself: For brides to be, the Cape Town Wedding Expo is open for business on Saturday and Sunday. 

For the love of Art: If you missed this month's First Thursday, fear not. You can still get your art fix at the Cape Town Fringe Fest happening until Sunday. 

Treat the family: The Table Mountain Cableway has opened their annual Kidz Season Special, which means two kids under 18 can ride for free when an adult purchases a return ticket for R240.

Wine and Dine: Join the culinary cult of underground dining with [Spasie]. Unique food evenings are open to the public every Thursday and Friday evening at R650 a ticket. 

Couple Karma: Open Streets heads to Bellville this Sunday, which means there'll be singing and dancing festivities is a completely car-free Bellville CBD. Entry is free!

DURBAN

Easy Mornings: Relax at Circus Circus Beach Café after a morning walk on the Golden Mile.   


Day Tripping: I love DN Theatre Market presents the Lion King this weekend. Take the kids for their weekly dose of theatre. The weather is going to be great.


Expo yourself: Head to the Sneddon Theatre for the interesting and remarkable De Compleat Hstry of Dbn (without the boring bits!) play. Said to really expose all of Durban.


For the love of Art: In the mood for some great company and breathtaking views of the city? The Rooftop Night Market offers live music, art and craft. 


Treat the family:  Essenwood Craft Market under the leafy green trees. A social and lively atmosphere where buskers, creatives and good food reside. 


Movers and Shakers: Milky Chance will be performing at the Durban Shongweni Polo Club. Kick start your weekend with great music and a hip crowd.

Wine and Dine: Enjoy an amazing burger at the newly opened Rocomamas at Gateway   


Couple Karma: Get into the right mood with some jazz at the Blue Dolphin every Sunday.



JOBURG 

Easy Mornings: Head to the Neighborgoods Market for ice cream, fresh pressed juice, delicious health soups, potjie and more from the city's finest organic products and chefs. 


Day Tripping:  Charity Chase – the amazing race styled event is back with a bang. Gather a team of friends and hit the road for an amazing adventure in the city. 


Expo yourself: Hobby-X will have you creating, fixing, sourcing materials and revisiting your favourite crafts and hobbies . 


For the love of Art: The Market Theatre’s Black and Blue play is a long-awaited love story set in suburbia. A long with a gardener seeking work – comes all the excitement. 


Treat the family: Market on Main - Explore this vibey market that celebrates local trade, lifestyle and pure relaxation.  


Movers and Shakers: Get the good vibes flowing and everyone laughing at the Parkers Comedy festival – the best of SA stand-up comedy.

 
Wine and Dine: Cube Restaurant is top class and delightful. They claim to have the key to the best tastes in Johannesburg. See for yourself. 


Couple Karma: Head to the ice rink for some good old fun. Hold hands, catch up and fall into each other's arms as you show off your skating skills. 


PORT ELIZABETH 

Easy Mornings:  The Valley Market is the place to be on lazy weekend mornings.

Day Tripping: Hike the Sacramento Trail, an  8 km moderate, popular one-way or circular route trail between Schoenmakerskop and Sardinia Bay.

Wine and Dine: See Nataniel in Concert for an entertaining evening out with your partner at NMMU - South Campus. 

Couple Karma: Hit cruise control on Sunday’s River. Bliss.  


BLOEMFONTEIN

Easy Mornings: The Westdeen Park Market is where you will find all the innovators of Bloem, mastering the art of food and design.

Day Tripping: Go Kayaking on the Gariep Dam is popular or spend the day along the Vaal River for a spot of swimming and river rafting.
