Cape Town - Please tell me, who doesn’t secretly hope their friends will remember them while strolling through Harrods or visiting a Lindt oasis in Switzerland?
The truth of the matter is that often we are in for a few worldly surprises. Perhaps travellers do fall off the world (or their trolley) when venturing too far across the seas. We might not understand why anyone would buy these things, but in the end it's the thought that counts and that's all that matters. Or is it?!
Take a look at these weird selection of gifts and gags from around the world spotted via the #weirdsouvenirs hashtag on instagram...
1. America - Twinkle Tush
Oh America! As far as jewels and gems go… This is taking it all to a completely new level (and angle). Twinkle Tush might seem like a great way to keep everyone in the family feeling special and beautiful, but we cannot in all honesty vouch for your cat.
2. Hungary
In a word, nein! Or as this Instagram user put it, "Weird but true, even Hitler was present at the 'Ecseri Flea Market' in Budapest, Hungary"
3. Britain
Condoms as a rule are just a tacky, tacky gift to give. But considering the rate at which this Royal couple have been pushing out babies, we're not so sure they're the best ambassadors for this product! Just don't.
4. Japan
To some, a bit of extra cup filling could be a God send, especially from friends who have more than enough to share. To others, a good neck and chest warmer will do just fine.
5. Thailand
Looking for a tooth to fill in the gaps? You'll find it on every corner in Thailand apparently. There is nothing like returning home with a fresh smile and a glow that says, “I’ve been on holiday” right!?
6. Bali
A token of good luck! These wooden (not so little) wonders are bottle openers from Bali. Quite the combination: good luck + wooden phallus + alcohol !
7. South Africa
While we love our local little wooden giraffes, we have not doubt this souvenir has been twisted, turned around and most probably even tackled to the ground for being such a nightmare to travel with.
And then of course we just have to include this weird and wonderful little fellow...
