Cape Town - Whales lolling, a large shoal of anchovies and a phoenix rising from the ashes - Cape Town-based photographer, Jean Tresfon shared four aerial shots of False Bay on Facebook on Wednesday that seem to have captured the imaginations of people everywhere with their refreshing perspective.
He titled the post 'the last day of summer' and described an ocean absolutely brimming with life.
"Huge shoals of anchovy were everywhere and it was a seafood bonanza. A huge pod of common dolphins together with hundreds of seals, cormorants and seagulls was feeding just offshore at Melkbospunt. A pair of humpback whales joined the fray and Oudekraal was also alive with more anchovy, dolphins, seals and seabirds, and the same again in Maori Bay," he wrote in the blurb accompanying his shots.
The above shot shows a large shoal of Yellowtail on the surface at Fish Hoek Bay, and surprisingly, no shark in sight!
Another shoal, but this time anchovy, being driven too the surface by seals and predated on from above as well by seabirds.
Ebony and Ivory - a pair of Southern Right Whales lolling on the surface near Kommetjie... obviously some of the early arrivals of their species, who inhabit our Atlantic shores during winter months.
And finally, a heart-warming shot of Tintswalo Atlantic rising from the ashes after being completely destroyed in the fires that ravaged the Cape peninsula at the beginning of March. The boutique hotel pledged to be back up and running by December this year and if this shot is anything to go by, it seems like they're well on track!
Tresfon specialises in aerial and underwater photography showcasing the beauty surrounding the Mother City and, at the same time, raising awareness about marine conservation.
