Netwerk24 reports that a Petro Rossouw, a student ranger working in the area, and her mother were walking on the beach in the Fransmanshoek Conservancy just south of Mossel Bay when they spotted a stick in shallow water, covered in sand.
They were practically on top of it before they saw it for what it was: a massive, fat and shiny snake!
Closer investigation revealed it to be a relatively harmless mole snake, albeit a gargantuan at 2 metres long.
Rossouw spotted the snake again a day later and saw that it was in the process of shedding its skin.
According to another ranger in the area, the snake could have been attracted to the beach by the presence of dune moles.
