Cape Town - On Friday, 23 January, David Gething of Hong Kong outran a small field of competitors to win the 2015 World Marathon Challenge, completing 7 marathons on 7 continents in only 7 days.
In the same event, Marianna Zaikova of Finland became the first and only female to ever complete this grueling marathon-series, fighting through an injury to complete the full marathon version of the race.
The World Marathon Challenge only allows for 12 runners to part-take, and they can either choose the full or half marathon version of the race. This year, 2 participants Krishna Prasad Chigurupati and his wife Uma Chigurupati, opted to run the half version, while 9 men and Zaikova embarked on their week-long journey to tread the world.
