Burned down Tintswalo Atlantic will be 'back in 8 months at the most'

Cape Town - Less than a month after one of the worst fires in Cape Town swept over the southern side of the peninsula, and burned down several properties including the highly acclaimed Tintswalo Atlantic, the boutique hotel has pledged to be back in action in eight months tops.

One of the owners of the beloved lodge, Gaye Corbett wrote on the Tintswalo Atlantic blog that the people involved in rebuilding Tintswalo's "main objective is to be up and running within the next 8 months at the most".

She said that the lodge has several weddings booked towards the end of the year and they are determined to meet their obligation to these brides.

Since the initial fire and burning down of the lodge, the management team at Tintswalo Atlantic have been overwhelmingly positive. On the same day which the fire blazed on the shores of Hout Bay, they were already on the premises making plans for the rebuilding of the property.

Corbett wrote that "One of the main things [they do when rebuilding], will be to rehabilitate the fynbos around the lodge and to stabilize the soil so we don’t get any major erosion when the rains do come".

Next year is expected to be one of the more spectacular years of fynbos growth and flowering, since the fire has helped germinate new plants which will be in full bloom by 2016.

A contractor has already been appointed to clear the site of all rubble and the new Tintswalo should now already be gaining form after Corbett said that construction would start two to three weeks after the fire.
