Austrian budget airline aims to launch shortest flight in the world

Cape Town - Cameroon's airline Camair-Co is said to be the operator of the world's shortest flight route, covering just 32 kilometres between Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo in about 30-mins. But now an Austrian budget airline, FlyNiki aims to edge into the title based on speed.

The Telegraph reports FlyNiki is launching the shortest international flight in the world - a 48km trip between Vienna, Austria, and Bratislava, Slovakia - which will only take about 10 minutes.

The route is scheduled to start 1 April, better known as April Fools' Day, but if this is a hoax, it's an expensive and elaborate one at that.

But for a road transfer that usually takes about 53 minutes, according to Google Maps, this new FlyNiki flight service is expected to be most useful for airport transfers.
