Johannesburg – If you thought South African airports worked on ‘Africa time,’ you may be surprised to find out that Johannesburg has come out tops for on time departure of flights in a recent survey of world cities.
Forming part of PwC’s ‘Cities of Opportunity 2014’ study, Johannesburg beat cities like Tokyo, London, New York and Stockholm to the top spot in this subsection of the 'City Gateway' category.
Beeld reports that Johannesburg ranked 23rd overall in the survey, climbing a commendable five positions from 2013.
The report analyzes the trajectory of 30 global cities which are all considered capitals of finance, commerce and culture, based on living standards, transportation, infrastructure and investment opportunities.

While it has proven its mettle in punctuality of flights as well as easy access from the CBD to the Airport, the city did not fare as well in other categories related to travel and tourism.
Joburg ranked lowest of all in hotel room count, with Shanghai claiming the top spot and 27th for incoming/outgoing passenger flow.
Interestingly, Beijing fared worst in the on time departure of flights with Shanghai in 29th position and Nairobi 28th.
