Look up Durban! The big A380 is back

Cape Town - Aviation enthusiasts in the Durban areas will be able to do a bit of A380 plane spotting over the weekend as British Airways will be conducting pilot training and technical tests with staff from 29 August to 1 September.

Having South African airports used in these sorts of tests are a major boost and ILOVEDurban reports this will be the 3rd time that King Shaka International will be used for its capabilities and infrastructure in handling the largest passenger aircraft in the world.

At the beginning of August, Airbus tested its A350XWB at OR Tambo International Airport as part of its World Tour as part of the newly designed aircrafts world tour of testing around the globe.

While BA is testing the aircraft at KSIA, their is at this point no direct route between Durban and London.

Plane spotters should keep an eye out for it in the air or head to the virtual viewing area in the food court area at the airport.

Big whoopie. Too many have died in recent months which have nothing to do with pilot error.

So the extra billions spent building King Shaka were for a few days training by BA each year.......so Zuma esque I could puke....

Flew on one back from Paris with Air France. Was supposed to fly there on one too but it broke down for two days. Finally on the trip back it felt really weird, swaying side to side.

I see them nearly every day. And when that giant bird turns I'm always amazed with the engineering that is involved. And how far we come from just a hundred years. Even in 50 we have done alot

Seen it from Ballito this morning. Hope they are training the best and not "affirmative action"

It's fantastic and quiet inside and I've enjoyed all my trips on A380's from JNB - CDG and CDG - JFK.. Living in Cape Town one is very jealous of the Durbanites who can see this awesome sight.
