Cape Town - In one hell of a romantic gesture, a Frenchman has been arrested for making a bomb threat all in the name of getting his girlfriend on a flight she feared she'd miss due to traffic.
Daily Mail reports that the 33-year-old man called Bordeaux-Mérignac airport on Thursday last week saying, 'there is a bomb, there is a bomb.'
After extensive searches were carried out by police and no evidence of an explosive device found, the call was traced to a location about 20km away from the airport.
The man was arrested and immediately admitted to making the call, however explained that it was for a good reason, as his girlfriend was stuck in traffic on the way to the airport. He decided to make the threat in an effort to delay the very important flight she would have missed.
The doubtfully chivalrous move now sees the man facing a €30 000 (R393 178 at R13.11/Euro) fine or up to two years in prison.
