SAA flights cancelled as cyclone travel advisory for Hong Kong issued

Cape Town - South African Airways (SAA) has issued a travel advisory alerting its passengers that certain flights to and from Hong Kong have been cancelled due to adverse weather conditions as a result of Cyclone Mujigae.

SAA Spokesperson Tlali Tlali confirmed the following SAA flights to and from Hong Kong International Airport are cancelled: 

Saturday, 03 October 2015 - SA 286 from Johannesburg to Hong Kong

Sunday, 04 October 2015 - SA 287 from Hong Kong to Johannesburg

"All ticketed passengers holding South African Airways (SAA) Ticket (only) are being advised to contact the South African Airways Call Centre. 


"These ticket holders will be assisted as follows via any SAA office beginning Saturday, 3 October, 2015 through to Monday, 05 October, 2015," said Tlali.

However, the airline did advise that its Kong offices are closed until further notice due to the weather conditions. 

"For customers that are connecting to from Hong Kong on flights operated by our code share or interline partners, we recommend that they contact the respective airlines for updated flight status."

Passengers are being advised that rebooking conditions applicable at no extra charge and subject to availability of the same booking class, with certain conditions applicable:

- Change of cabin will not be permitted

- Change of routing will not be permitted

- This policy is applicable to South African Airways flights only, issued on SA (083) ticket stock and not on separate tickets of other airlines

-  Tickets must be re-issued on/before Monday, 5 October 2015

- Travel must commence on/before Saturday, 10 October 2015

- The endorsement box of the re-issued tickets must be annotated with – “INVOL REROUTE DUE

"South African Airways regrets any inconvenience to our customers as a result of the adverse weather conditions and we encourage all customers to visit our website www.flysaa.com for all flight updates and or flight cancellations.  Safety remains paramount in all our operations."

The Disaster Aware tweeted that according to the JTWC, TS Mujigae is tracking west-northwestward and is set to make final landfall over southern China.  "Heavy rains and gusty winds, along with high surf will impact the east coast of China, with heavy rains moving inland…causing flooding and transportation problems."
