News24 reported earlier this week that Department of Defence spokesperson Siphiwe Dlamini said that the presidential aircraft was on a scheduled service and, therefore, not available.
So, guess the president had no choice but to seek out the services of exclusive, Johannesburg-based charter company, Fortune Air.
EWN reports that it is, in fact, the second time that Zuma makes use of the super luxurious Boeing 727-200 and that his 2011 flight (also to New York), cost in the vicinity of R6m.

We decided to see just what makes this aircraft so spectacular... and were pretty blown away.
This is what you can expect to find on board:
- Double State Room with queen bed, 2-place divan and entertainment system. The en-suite bathroom comprises shower, basin, toilet and bidet.
- 4-place Executive Lounge/Private Office with entertainment system.
- 14-place Executive Salon with entertainment system.
- 18 place aft business class seating area
- Crew rest area, comprising 3-place divan and 4 seats, with own restroom and galley.
- 6 additional crew jump seats.
- Satellite phone
The aircraft can seat 43 people all in all, has space for three flight crew and three cabin attendants.

The charter company has a fleet of 15 luxury aircraft, ranging in size and specs, the Boeing 727-200 is the largest and most extravagant of the lot.
Interestingly, SAA runs a daily non-stop service between Johannesburg and New York. Maybe something Zuma could investigate at some point.
