Travelstart slashes ticket prices to make travel cheaper for locals

Cape Town - In response to a recent News24 poll in which locals stated they were taking less holidays because travel in South Africa was too expensive, local online travel Agent Travelstart has responded with a sale valid until midnight on Tuesday 21 April, on one of SA's most popular routes.

On Monday 20 April the OTA said had 4 000 seats available for travel between Joburg to Cape Town and Cape Town to Joburg, with ticket prices starting from R499 one way, with prices exclusive to Travelstart. The sale was valid for travel between 01 May – 30 June 2015.

"Fare includes 20 kgs of checked baggage and 7 kgs hand luggage, free coffee and tea on board and airline liquidation insurance,"   the OTA said.

READ: 'SA domestic travel is just too expensive'

In one of two polls run on News24, we asked readers whether they travel locally, and the majority (10 592) of the 14 393 votes received, indicated that locals do in fact believe there is much to see in and around South Africa. A marginal 3 801 people said they would rather travel overseas.

While the second poll asked readers what they thought about the price increase of ticket to Robben Island.  More than 18 000 people responded and the overall response with 13 656 votes, is that the new cost is exorbitant.

The cost of fuel, increased flight prices and expensive accommodation were just some of the reasons locals cited travel to be an unaffordable luxury.
