"There has been no damage to any structures and roads have not been closed. But, guests are advised to stay alert and drive carefully in areas affected by fires, as there is a lot of smoke in the air," said William Mabasa, General Manager: Communications & Marketing for the Kruger National Park.
The game reserve has been plagued by fires since last Friday when one jumped across the border from Mozambique, burning areas south of Olifants River, Houtboschrand, N'wanetsi until Tshokwane.
While Mabasa said that this fire had been contained, two additional fires broke out in the area of the Phabeni gate, close to the Pretoriuskop rest camp, in the southern part of the park on Thursday.
"They have joined into one fire, but we are almost at the point of containing it," he told Traveller24.
SANParks said in a statement on Thursday that conservation staff members have been working day and night to try and manage all the fires.Kruger National Park challenged by fires @ http://t.co/x4wBiamxHV pic.twitter.com/X0ACWzPuny

“We would like to advise the public to be on the look-out for fires in the Park and to refrain from starting more, as the dry and windy conditions cause these fires to be fast, hot and out of control”, concluded Mabasa.
