Cape Town - South African Airways (SAA) has warned the public about a fake recruitment scam inviting interested parties to apply for training as cabin crew staff with the airline.
SAA released a statement saying the scam had been circulated via social media, suggesting the airline was looking for 500 candidates with matric qualification to be trained as cabin crew.
"We distance ourselves from that communication which is misleading the public and has a potential to create confusion among SAA employees,” said SAA Spokesperson, Tlali Tlali.
Tlali also confirmed that SAA was currently under an employment freeze in order to bring its employ levels to financial stability as part of the airline's Long Term Turnaround strategy.
SAA said it would like to urge members of the public to take the necessary precautions in order to protect their personal details as well as cross check or verify information with the company before deciding to submit their applications.
“The communication in question bears all the hallmarks of a scam and seems to be preying on unsuspecting youth. We never insist that applications must be sent through personal emails and the company does not use @mailbox.co.za domain for email communication purposes,” explained Tlali.
The airline said the matter was currently under investigation and advised those who had already submitted their personal information to report it to the police.
