WATCH: Drones doing what you've never seen them do before

Cape Town - Whether you love them or find them weird and invasive, there's no denying that drones are opening up a whole new way to view the world around us.

Apart from the whole 'dronie' craze and, of course, aerial footage of rarely seen spots, drones are even being employed to perform spectacular light shows these days.

Ars Electronic Futurelab recently decided to attach LED lights to drones and send them into the sky to paint an incredible series of pictures above the city of Linz in Austria.

Going by the name of Spaxels, these lit-up drones are sent up in a swarm to create an extraordinary visual experience.

I mean, who needs fireworks?
