WATCH: Tourism Thailand criticized for making a creepy stalker video

Cape Town - Tourism Thailand’s latest marketing campaign seems to have backfired as the video they made for the campaign translated to a stalker-like video labelled as creepy by the travel industry.

The 16-minute film, called Love en Route, features an American man who travels to Thailand to heal a broken heart.

He uses an Instagram account of a Thai woman who is travelling in remembrance of her sister as a 'guidebook', and literally follows in her footsteps exploring the scenes she posts on her Instagram account.

The link below shows a shorter, 7-minute film. The original 16-minute one can be viewed here

In the story, the woman and owner of the Instagram initially resists the man's attempts to pursue a friendship, but she eventually gives in and they spend time touring Thailand together.

The awkwardness doesn't end there. When the couple eventually say their goodbyes at the airport, the man declares that he has feelings for her, but is met with a blank stare and total silence.

The film is also available in a shortened 6-minute version, which is even more confusing as various parts are cut out, making the short film even more creepy.

What do you think, is this a cute or creepy campaign?
