20 Point checklist for a weekend’s necessities [that'll fit into a single carry-on bag]

Cape Town - If you're a budget traveller wanting to save on baggage fees, you'll need to know how to pack like a pro to get a weekend's worth of necessities in one small carry-on bag. 

Here's Traveller24's trusty check-list on how to get everything you need into one 56 x 36 x 23cm, 7kg carry on.

Travel savvy packing skills? Check... 

Random 
1. purse or wallet including cash, card, ID
2. phone charger and plug adapter 
3. medication 
4. make-up
5. x1 backpack / handbag (for both day and night)
6. Vanity pack with only the necessary toiletries 

Clothing
7. x1 pair of undies per day + 2 or 3 extra 
8. x1 pair of socks per day + 2 extra
9. x1 adjustable, multi-way bra
10. x1 pajamas 
11. x1 pair of jeans 
12. x 2 shirts/ t-shirts / blouses 
13. x 2 bottoms (make sure they're comfy and weather appropriate)
14. x 1 knitwear / warm hoodie 
15. x 1 dress / fancy shirt

Optional extras
16. x1x coat with a hood / jacket / waterproof windbreaker 
17. x1  swimsuit / trunks (if going to the coast or water’s edge)
18. x1 additional shoes 
19. minimal accessories [including hairdryer/straightener] 
20. Sarong [can double up as a towel, if necessary] 


Shoes take up most space in a carry-on bag. Be smart and wear a pair of trusty sneakers that can go with every outfit throughout the weekend. If you do pack summery slops, make sure they're flat and light.
