5 Reasons why you should never post pictures of your boarding pass on social media

Cape Town - No matter how tempted you may feel to show off your checked-in business class boarding pass on Instagram or any other social media platform... don't.

Yes, we are jealous of your upcoming trip... but it's not (only) that.

While some of your friends and followers would just experience a brief surge of jealousy before moving on with their lives after seeing your pic, keep in mind there are also uber creepy people out there...  who would love to know everything about you.

Here are 5 good reasons to forego the social media self-indulgence:

1. You're giving away your airline, full name and surname as well as your booking reference - which is everything a person needs to log into your flight reservation online and make amendments...

2. Your giving away your exact locations, as well as the times you'll be at these places. Also, when a person accesses your flight details as detailed in point number one, they will also be able to view ALL your future flight plans with that specific airline and make amendments to those, too...

3. Logging into your online booking not only reveals flight details for all flights with the airline, in some cases it also shows your ID number, passport number, email address, telephone number and, in some cases, your credit card details!

4. An easy bar-code scan on a free internet decoder can reveal your frequent flyer number, which can then be used by other people to book flights!

5. Lastly, it's just plain rude. You're causing mild depression to all of us staying behind, save us the FOMO, we're begging you.

Also remember not to dispose of your used boarding pass in any random location as the encrypted information will still be available on it. Rather black out the areas containing your personal details and the bar-code before throwing it in the bin.
