7 Feel-good festivities for this weekend


Cape Town - With this incredible line-up of festivals, markets and soirees right throughout South Africa, you now have no excuse to be bored this weekend.

This, however, is the laid-back weekender's guide to a good time this weekend. 

Christmas Country Fair - Ballito 
What: Support the local KZN community by going to this crafty event this weekend. Masterchef celebrity chef Joani Mitchell will be giving Christmas food demonstration with a Mediterranean flair at the fair, so get your ticket before it's too late. 
Where: Collisheen Estate, Ballito, KwaZulu-Natal
When: 29 - 30 October 
Costs: Entrance is R50 per person, including tea and refreshments. No charge for children under 12

What:
10 awe-inspiring wineland gardens open their doors to the public in the most beautiful of spring times. In town the festival hub will have lovely food, wine and live music to add to the European-flaired event. 
Where: Franschhoek and surrounds, Western Cape
When: 31 October - 2 November 
Costs: The gardens are open to the public, for free.

Johannesburg Shopping Festival
What: If you ever wanted a reason to shop - here it is. Joburg has joined the ranks of esteemed shop cities like Paris, Milan and Dubai and will host its very first shopping festival this weekend. 
Where: Oriental Plaza and Sandton City, Johannesburg, Gauteng 
When: 30 October - 2 November 
Costs: Go for free but take stacks of cash to spend on shoes etc.

What: A festival in celebration of the grape for connoisseurs, beginners and casual wine-lovers alike. Plenty of local food trucks will park out at the event, which will also host a temporary tattoo parlour, photo booth and great artists liek Toby2shoes and Mr Cat & the Jackal
Where: The Lookout, V&A Waterfront, Cape Town, Western Cape

Costs: R150 gains you entrance and 8 tastings

Spier's Burgers and Blends Festival  
What: Make the most your late afternoon lunch at Spier when you discover some of their winery secrets. You'll be treated to taste their signature selection of blends and the event also allows you to try your hand at creating your own blend!
Where: Spier Estate, Baden Powell Drive, Stellenbosch, Western Cape 
When: 1 November, 16:30

Bourbon, Beer and Burger festival and Race Day

What: A stylish day at the races in Jozie. Live music, pop-up food stalls and a Charity Mile, in which each horse earns a prize for the charity it represents, makes this day a fun event in the name of doing good. Dust off you dress shoes Jozie!

Africa Marine & Leisure Expo Beach festival
What: A fun-filled day on the KZN coast with live music, fishing competitions, water sports, beach cricket and plenty of other activities. Go and enjoy an amazing fun in the sun day on the beach with friends.

When: 1- 2 November
