Say yes to ALL of these promises!
1. I promise to use reusable bags instead of single-use plastic
Sadly, plastic bags end up in the landfill or sea and stay there forever. These bags become hazardous to animals and cause terrible discomfort and even death.
2. I Promise to only drink tap water
Plastic bottles are making us look bad and are wasting water to make them too. It can take up to 26 litres to make a one litre bottle plastic bottle and three litres of water to make one litre of bottled water. The process of making the water is expensive and is energy intensive.
3. Say NO to straws
The most common form of rubbish found in the ocean and on the seaside. When these are swallowed and get stuck in animal bodies, they can block passages, cause incredible discomfort and eventually death. Promise to ditch the straws – you’ll be surprised at how you really don’t need them.
4. I promise to say no to balloons
While balloons are pretty and add to festivities they wreak havoc for marine life. When the odd balloon goes astray, they end up in the sea and animals mistake them for food. Animals can get strangled or choke on these colourful piece of plastic. Biodegradable balloons are no good too, as they can take years to degrade. We are running out of time.
5. I promise to cut my loops
Boxbands, and other plastic loops end up in the sea and get wrapped around animals. Make sure that you cut all loops and recycle them.
6. I promise to bin all my butts
Ensure that all your cigarette butts land in the bin. Cigarette butts are the most common item of litter. The butts are not biodegradable. The harmful nicotine and tar poison the waters and can kill animals if they eat them. Dispose of them properly.
