I’ve been dreaming about my big day since I was a little girl

This is reader response to our “When did you first know you were ready to get married?”article.

I’ve been conceiving wedding fantasies from the delicate age of nine years which has been largely influenced by attending many family weddings.

At this point I had no real concept of marriage and my prince charming was characterless. Of course, my fantasy was solely built around the colourful celebrations that accompany any Indian wedding.

I pictured my “coy” self in a rich mahogany saree embroidered lavishly with sparkling diamantes, a monumental turn out of family and friends all of whom were beaming with excitement and pride and a breath-taking and beautifully decorated venue.

As the years progressed, I’ve always held on that dream, however it has always just remained that… a dream.

I’ve never had the urge to engage in marriage and all that it involved up until I met my real prince charming a few years ago.

Serendipity struck when the hope for love had almost vanished. New Year’s Eve 2011 was when we met and this love found me feeling like a little girl again.

I wouldn’t say that it was one defining moment that made me realise he was “the one” but as the relationship developed and I got to know this kind soul, I realised that this was the missing piece from my fantasy.

When you find someone who ‘completes you’ (cliché but true and when you are in love all the clichés come to life)’, is a best friend in a beautiful package - a hottie of note (Hubba Hubba), shares the same goals and ideals for life, loves you just the way you are and appreciates the hell out of you… that was the summary of points at which I realised, I’m keeping this fish for life.

The wheels have been set in motion, he popped the question on New Year’s Eve this year (how romantic) and we are tying the knot next year.

I guess when I realised who I was, what made me happy and what the true meaning of my life was, I was ready to make the decision to live my dream.
