5 of the most ridiculous celebrity lawsuits

accreditation
Sometimes stars are given absurd reasons for being charged with lawsuits. Here are five of them, including their outrageous price tags:

Taylor Swift vs. Jessie Braham

Unknown R&B and Gospel singer Jessie Braham filed a lawsuit against Grammy Award winner Taylor Swift for $42 million (R577 million) over copyright infringements.

The 50-year-old musician sued Swift for plagiarising the lyrics, ‘Haters gonna hate/Players gonna play’ from his song Haters Gonna Hate in her hit song, Shake It Off.

Graham told the New York Daily News that if he hadn’t written his song, published in 2013, there wouldn’t have been a song called Shake It Off. Many wonder if this lawsuit was just a publicity stunt. The case is currently ongoing.

Justin Bieber vs. Stacey Wilson Betts

In 2012, Justin Bieber was sued for $9.23 million (R126 million) for causing damage to a fan during one of his concerts. According to Channel24, Stacey Betts took her daughter to see one of his shows, where she was overcome by the roaring sound of the speakers and the crowd.

Bieber reportedly conducted the audience, making various sections of the crowd scream, leaving permanent damage to the mother’s ears. She now suffers from tinnitus, which is the constant ringing and buzzing in the ear.

Nicki Minaj vs. Terrance Davidson

Nicki Minaj’s former wig designer is suing the Hip Hop artist for $30 million (R412 million), accusing her of stealing his wig designs and using them for her own wig line.

The two started working together in 2010 and Davidson and he was supposedly in a joint venture to appear in a reality television show with Minaj, which never panned out. The lawsuit was eventually dismissed five months later, due to a lack of viable claims.

Jay Z vs. Jeffney Philistin

Hip Hop mogul Jay Z was slapped with a $90 million (R1.2 billion) lawsuit by Jeffney  Philistin. Philistin claimed he has been a ghostwriter for the rapper from 2010 to 2014. The craziest thing about this entire case is that Philistin is in prison, serving a 30-year sentence for robbery.

Mila Kunis vs. Kristina Karo

Mila Kunis was sued for $5000 (R68 694) by her childhood friend, Kristina Karo for stealing her chicken. Yes, you read that correctly. The Hollywood actress was sued by struggling Ukrainian singer, Kristina Karo for stealing her chicken, Doggie.

This theft of Doggie happened 25 years ago in Ukraine, which led to Kunis laughing it off saying that it was clearly a publicity stunt to promote her music. Karo eventually decided to drop the charges.
