Print your beloved snaps onto your sheets

You will need:

• digital photo

• fabric (ironed smooth)

• iron-on transfer paper for dark fabric

• baking paper (sometimes included with the transfer paper)

• craft knife, cutting mat and metal ruler

1 Decide how big you want to print your photo. If it won’t fit on one A4-sized sheet of transfer paper, you will have to divide the photo in two on your computer.

First print the photo out on plain paper to make sure the two sections fit together exactly and are the correct size.

2 Print the two sections of the photo with an inkjet printer (not a laser printer) onto the transfer paper and leave the paper to stand for five minutes so that the ink can dry.

NOTE: We used transfer paper for dark fabric, as it gives a deeper colour.

3 Neatly cut off the white edges of the transfer paper where the two sections join together. If necessary, cut off any sections of the photo that you don’t want to use.

4 Set your iron on the hottest setting, but make sure the water container is empty and the steam function is switched off. Remove the layer on which the photo is printed from the backing of the transfer paper.

5 Place the photo (in position) onto the fabric and cover it with a layer of baking paper. Work on a flat, hard surface and iron with smooth circular movements over the photo to transfer the image onto the fabric.

6 Remove the baking paper – you can reuse it. Place the second photo next to the first one so that the join is not visible, then cover it with baking paper and iron as before.
