The coveted Golden Crown award, given to stars with the best overall online presence, is dominated with three female figures, including South African television star Bonang Matheba, YouTube sensation Suzelle DIY and 5FM DJ, Poppy Ntshongwana.
Other awards include funniest celebrity, best celebrity couple, best celebrity #selfie, best Instagram account and more.
The aim of the Channel24 Awards is to honour only local artists, public figures and stars by acknowledging their powerful and influential social media presence.
Last year, we saw Top Billing presenters Jeannie D and Janez Vermeiren take home two awards. In 2014, Suzelle DIY won the best YouTube channel and it would be interesting to see if she will retain her title.
Channel24’s Online Award of 2015 sees a few firsts in this year’s nomination poll, such as Amanda du-Pont for best Instagram account and Karlien van Jaarsveld for best Facebook page. Suzelle is the second female to be nominated for two awards, as Afternoon Express presenter, Bonang also appears on two ballots.
Channel24 Editor, Herman Eloff said, “When our panel of judges put together the list of nominees for this year’s awards, we looked for powerful social media stars that use their platforms for good. Women like Suzelle DIY and Bonang dominated the list because of their amazing presence and inspiring use of social media to communicate with their fans and followers.”
